In reflecting on where I am in the technology continuum and how I see my future on the Internet I viewed the video at http://tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk/index.php/2009/10/14/visitors-residents-the-video/

First let me state, my work as a career education coordinator puts me in a different place than most academic school managers. I believe as a school developer it behooves me to be in tune with online education. Currently, the concept of purchasing buildings and developing school sites is the norm and it's not unusual to have the vision of large school campuses. Sadly, this is true for schools that primarily provide lecture based education.

For career education, it will be critical to keep in mind the purpose for any facility development. If the goal is to continue to provide a place where students join with an instructor for the purposes of hands-on learning, then a facility or plant will continue to be required.

To realize that the power to learn online opens up doors for students of third-world economies is exciting! I want to be part of the educational future and help see technology be the great equalizer. There will not be a reason to build libraries in Afghanistan if we can put Kindles or Ipads in the hands of each child - along with e-books and satellites - students can be supplied with all of the text materials needed for academia.

There will still be a need for career training and facilities world-wide. How do we take this type of schooling to the jungles and most remote places? What will my role in this mean in the future? How can I be collaborative across nations in this way?
